back post 1: we arrive!

Finally have a little bit more internet, so the next several posts are me pasting in the stuff I've been writing in Word this past week.  Will try to get a few more photos up soon.
Hooray, we’re flying out today.  No, wait, never mind.  Thanks, weather in NYC.

Day 2 didn’t work quite so well either, but this time it was the plane in Raleigh that broke.  So we went to Detroit.  And then Amsterdam.  And ran through Amsterdam, only to realize that our flight to Istanbul was delayed and sit for 45 minutes.  The people in the Netherlands really are quite friendly though.  Poor Cat#1 & #2 spent about 26 hours in their cat carriers by the time it was all done and we were home.  #2 did great, #1 peed on the jetbridge in Amsterdam, but by that point we didn’t care and no one else around us seemed to either.  5/6 bags even made it to Istanbul with us!  Chris met us at the apt with keys and pizza (have you ever seen a Domino’s pizza with corn on it?  It was delicious).  Time for sleep, then grocery store finding – there’s one in the basement that seems to have most everything we’d need, though the produce looks a little sad.  We’ll do some venturing.

There’s a giant shopping mall right down the street -- see photo.  There’s a big fancy grocery store in there that we visited, think the Whole Foods (whole paycheck) of the US.  It’s a nice store, and has a good selection, but I bet we’ll only go there for stuff we can’t find elsewhere.  Also, since basically nothing else in the mall is in our price range, the Ak Merkez really will just be a bus stop name for us.  Unless I suddenly get a craving to spend piles of money on purses and Cartier jewelry.  Sigh.  But maybe they have nice restaurants?  But then again, couldn’t we just go up the street to other, non-stuffy restaurants that aren’t in a big mall?  Evet.  (yes)
